Science Festivals are 33 years old and Simon Gage, Director of Edinburgh Science Festival, has been involved for 32 of them. Using a handful of objects and memorable moments gathered over his life in public engagement he offers a few simple wisdoms about what he believes makes for great engagement. Drawing on his international work on science festivals, educational programmes and other unexpected moments of excitement and hazard he reflects on a movement that must evolve quickly to stay relevant and compelling for all its audiences. The talk may involve flames.
